SUMMARY:Clase de Arte Libre en UnLocal • Drop-in Art Making
DESCRIPTION:Drop-in Art Making\nThis workshop is open to all ages. Seating is available on a first-come\, first-served basis. Free \nJoin UnLocal and  Art Educators from the Whitney Museum of American Art for a drop-in art making workshop. Participants will participate in conversations to practice their English skills in a bilingual setting. \nWhen? Saturday\, January 18\, 12pm-1:30pm and Saturday\, February 15\, 12pm-1:30pm \nWhere? UnLocal Inc. 45 W 29th Street\, Suite 203 New York\, NY 10001 \n \n \nUnLocal\, Inc. is a community-centered non-profit organization that provides direct immigration legal representation and community education to New York City’s undocumented immigrant communities. Our Education and Outreach team believe that education is a tool for advocacy and strive to empower immigrant communities by connecting them with key resources. We prioritize mutual education as a learning tool to collaborate with our partners and community members to create accessible presentations\, webinars\, clinics\, and events. We intend to destigmatize any misconceptions of immigration law and the socio-political narrative that accompanies it. \nThe Education Department at the Whitney Museum of American Art is dedicated to engaging in that practice\, and to promoting diverse voices within American art and our community. Focusing especially on those who have been historically marginalized\, we place the learner at the center of our programs and resources.

SUMMARY:Holiday Letter Writing for Detained Immigrants
DESCRIPTION:Dear Community\,  \n\n\n\n\nI hope this message finds you well\, and that you are taking care of yourselves and your loved ones during these challenging times following the election. I know many of us are feeling the weight of uncertainty\, but together\, we will continue to face the journey ahead. At Unlocal\, we remain steadfast in our commitment to fighting for the rights of all immigrants\, including those in immigration detention. It is our responsibility to challenge harmful narratives that divide us into “good” vs. “bad” immigrants. \nAs we prepare for our 3rd annual holiday letter-writing circle to support our community members in detention\, we would love for you to join us in this meaningful effort. Our letter-writing event will take place on December 10\, 2024\, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at UnLocal’s office. In addition to the letter-writing event\, we will also be providing a presentation on how to best support a loved one who has been detained. The event flyer is attached. \nIn addition to the letters\, we are collecting monetary donations for commissary to send along with the holiday cards. Our goal is to send a $25 money order to individuals in detention\, and your generosity will go a long way in making this possible. If you’re able\, please consider donating and/or RSVP through this Givebutter page. \nYour solidarity will help remind those in detention that they are not forgotten. \nThank you for being part of this important work!

SUMMARY:Drop-in Printmaking with Mobile Print Power
DESCRIPTION:Join multigenerational printmaking collective Mobile Print Power (MPP) for a drop-in silkscreen printing workshop at UnLocal. Participants will learn about creating socially engaged art and participatory design through printmaking\, and will make a screenprint to take home. \nThis workshop is open to all ages. Seating is available on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nTranslators in Spanish and French will be present.  \nMobile Print Power is a multigenerational collective that started as a weekly printmaking and political education workshop in Corona\, Queens\, in 2013. Mobile Print Power co-creates books\, prints\, and public sculptures with their communities. Each project reflects their commitment to social change and belief in the value of shared artistic production. \n
