Social Media / Communications Strategist

Summary

We are recruiting for a  Social Media/Communications Strategist for the remainder of 2021. We are looking for someone who is dedicated, creative, passionate and who thrives in a challenging and collaborative work environment. 

The primary work of the Social Media/Communications Strategist is to support the development of UnLocal’s visual and written communications strategy to promote UnLocal’s education and outreach initiatives. The Social Media/Communications Strategist is responsible for coordinating social media, updating website posts, and exploring various avenues to visually promote UnLocal’s outreach efforts. The Strategist will also provide administrative support for development, including designing promotional materials for fundraising campaigns and donor communications. This position reports directly to UnLocal’s Education and Outreach Director. 

This is a part time temporary position. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create visually compelling, informative content for UnLocal’s social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc) 
  • Strategically develop, implement, and assess public facing communication campaigns to disseminate accurate, reliable information utilizing art, technology, and media;
  • Drive the creation and execution of weekly social media calendars that are educational and engaging
  • Oversee the design and production of print materials, website management, graphic design, and social media content creation and management
  • Provide expertise and support to the UnLocal team for visual and social media strategy needs, such as such as newsletters, news/press releases, announcements, event promotion, online posts, website updates, video productions, and special projects
  • Develops proactive communications plans to address targeted audiences, mitigate risk, and drive communications around key issues
  • Provide visual and media support for email newsletters and web content
  • Attend weekly Education and Outreach meetings to collaborate and collectively strategize around the team’s visual and social media needs
  • Monitor and respond to social media “inbounds” via Direct Messaging (DMs) 
  • Promote national and local advocacy and outreach efforts
  • Grow our social media audience and increase its reach

Professional Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant experience creating media campaigns and/or building organizational communication strategies;
  • Demonstrates ability as a strong writer and oral communicator, with sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse socioeconomic, cultural, academic, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of those with histories of migration and UnLocals diverse audience
  • Sustains positive and open lines of communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Handles sensitive media relations situation
  • Experienced deploying timely content during rapid response scenario
  • Demonstrates experience with marketing and public relations campaigns with a thorough understanding of communications strategies and tactics, including content strategy, digital and social media
  • Experience developing and maintaining a press list and/or writing media releases highly desirable
  • Detail oriented, organized, with excellent project management and prioritization skills
  • Experienced creating bilingual, original, informative or educational graphics via design programs (Canva, Adobe InDesign, etc) 
  • Proficient in Spanish (other languages are a plus);
  • Passionate about addressing the legal needs of undocumented individuals;
  • Possesses strong critical analysis of power, privilege, and systems of oppression
  • Some knowledge of web/app design and/or video creation highly desirable

Projected Start Date

  • We are seeking to have our social media/Communication Strategist start on September 1, 2021 on a part-time, hourly basis
  • This position will run until December 2021 with the possibility of extension into 2022
